In this specific book, Joey’s dad comes back to town, causing a disruption, being that his parents are separated. While Joey’s dad is in town, and causing trouble with his mom, Joey’s grandmother suggests he make a friend to help during this time. Joey makes a friend who he knew, but she is mean. This causes Joey to realize not everyone will be treated right, nor will they always be nice to you, at all times. In the end, Joey learns how to balance his family situation and everything else that comes his way.
