Mara Rockliff, also known as Lewis
B. Montgomery, is a children and teen book writer. She currently resides in
Kutztown, PA and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Authors and

the Agatha Award nomination from the Mystery Writers of America, Excellence in
Nonfiction for Young Adults Award nomination, and Green Earth Honor Book
designation, twice. She has twenty-eight books out now, including one that is
coming out this month in March (See picture to the right).
Rockliff writes in a variety of
styles ranging from children's to teens. She wrote quite a bit of picture books
and has a whole chapter book series called "Milo and Jazz Mysteries"
that she writes under her pen name of Lewis B. Montgomery. She also wrote a
nonfiction book for teens as well as a few math educational books that have
mice as the main characters.
Rockliff says that she writes book for "kids who want to change the world" ("Mara Rockliff") and frequently includes science facts in her writings. Rockliff also writes a lot about diversity. She has a lot of characters that are of different ethnicities and frequently displays people of different backgrounds living together in harmony.
In her book, The Busiest Street in Town, there is a Caucasian and African American woman who are best friends and nowhere in the book does it mention the color of any of them. The book shows how everyone comes together to slow down from their busy lives and has some fun together. In another one of her books called, The Grudge Keeper, there is an interracial couple who gets married and nowhere in the book does it say anything about race. That book is also about people coming together and forgiving each other for the grudges that they held. There are many other books that Rockliff has written that show diversity and other cultures, such as My Heart Will Not Sit Down and Me and Momma and Big John.
