![]() Doodle Soup is a poetry book that will allow for children (and adults) to let the silly out when they normally have to act serious. This collection of poems is comparable to those of Shel Silverstein since they are so full of nonsense, which is what makes them so fun to read (and listen to). The poems rhyme on almost every line and are short enough for any beginning reader. Many (if not all of the poems) have either a play on words or a small joke in them. I don't know if the younger readers would be able to understand the jokes, but it does make it more entertaining for teenagers/adults to either read the poems themselves or listen to a child read any of the poems to them. This is one of the simpler poem books that are available, but it does its job well and doesn't make poetry so hard that the younger kids are not able to understand and enjoy what's inside. This may be one of the better books to introduce poetry to young children with. There are also simple drawings for each of the poems which add just enough whimsy to each page. This collection of poems is perfect for any library and will let the usually serious adults turn into the children that they keep inside them.
