By David WiesnerThis Caldecott award winner picture book tells the story of a young boy’s dreams through pictures alone. The objects around the boy’s bedroom seem to inspire his dreams. As the boy falls asleep with his book, one of the pages drifts off into the distance to start his adventure. He travels through many different “worlds” as he dreams; from a castle constructed of chess pieces housing kings, queens and knights, to flying on the breeze with book pages and swans, which seem to be made of leaves. The characters are different and interesting throughout the different lands, the boy also changes at one point, growing into a giant that towers over the other characters. The amazing illustrations are so detailed, one could stare at a single page for an extended period of time, leaving the reader, young or old, to imagine the storyline. For educators, this book is a great tool to help young students grow in their narrative skills, even if they cannot read yet.
