Laetitia Devernay takes an interesting spin on her picture book, The Conductor. Using no words she mixes two unlike objects, a music conductor and a bundle of trees to activate and engage the creativity of her text’s readers. The book comes to like when the conductor climbs to the very top of one of the trees and begins to conduct. The tree illustrations begin to fly above in an orderly fashion, just as an orchestra would begin to play in sync upon the conductors lead. I really enjoyed this picture book. Although it is wordless, it’s viewer would have no problem deciphering it’s tone and message. Having no words makes for a creative opportunity for any young learner.
