Eragon - a fantasy novel by Christopher Paolini - follows a poor boy (Eragon) and his dragon (Saphira) throughout many adventures. The story begins with Eragon discovering a dragon egg while hunting for food. Initially, he believes the egg to be a stone; however, he quickly finds that he was mistaken once the egg hatches. Eragon raises Saphira in secret and peace until two servants of the dark King Galbatorix come looking for the egg. Once Eragon catches wind of this, he quickly flees to the mountains. Enraged that they could not find the egg, the servants burn Eragon's house to the ground, killing his uncle. With no reason to stay at home and a bounty on his head, Eragon runs away with Saphira, eagerly seeking aid. Eragon is a perfect read for children age 10-13. There is a small amount of 'PG' violence, but vulgar language is absent from the novel. |
