Jasper Rabbit loves to snack on carrots just like any other rabbit. He eats the carrots out of Crackenhopper Field anytime that he wants to, until one day he notices little, orange carrots following him home and they aren’t happy. Jasper becomes paranoid, seeing orange carrots out of the corner or his eyes, but when he turns around there are not carrots to be found. This picture book tells the story of a little rabbit’s problem and what he does to overcome it. Peter Brown manages to tell the story of Creepy Carrots! through monster movie-like sketches and highlights the creepiness of the carrots by only using the colors black, white, and orange. Brown’s illustrations also won the picture book a Caldecott Honor in 2013. The story shows kids that things that go bump in the night can be conquered if they only try. Creepy Carrot! is a great story that kids will love to read with parents and is a necessary addition to any library’s children’s collection.
